Restrict App Access to Mobile Hotspots on the S6
On April 04,2022 by Tom RoutleyWhen connecting to a mobile hotspot, one should always avoid unnecessary downloads and updates, as such operations may incur extra charges to the owner of the network or rapidly deplete their mobile data plan. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is shipped with a nifty feature to prevent against hidden background updates or downloads.
This guide will teach you how to allow your smartphone to differentiate between mobile hotspot and a regular WiFi network. Go to Apps > Settings > Connections > Data usage:
Tap on the More menu > Restrict Networks:
Known WiFi networks will be displayed in a list. You can label a WiFi network as a mobile hotspot by toggling its corresponding switch to the right:
